  • Celebrating Social Work Practitioners

Social Work: The Heart of Service & Advocacy Social work is one of the most versatile and impactful professions, offering opportunities to create change at every level—micro, mezzo, and macro. Whether providing one-on-one support, empowering groups, or advocating for systemic change, social workers are at the forefront of building a more compassionate and equitable world. Throughout my career, I’ve worked with children and older adults, two populations at opposite ends of the life spectrum. Each has taught me unique lessons about resilience, vulnerability, and the profound strength of the human spirit. The Many Faces of Social Work Social work is about getting out of your comfort zone, listening without judgment, and championing those who feel unheard. These are the three groups we work with: Micro: Supporting individuals and families through life’s most difficult challenges. Mezzo: Strengthening communities through programs and education. Macro: Transforming society through policy advocacy, reform, and social justice efforts. It’s this versatility that makes social work so rewarding. Every day presents an opportunity to connect, advocate, and empower. Reflections on My Journey Working with children has reminded me of the importance of instilling hope and modeling positive behavior. On the other hand, working with older adults has taught me the beauty of perspective and the value of honoring life’s journey. Working with both populations has shown me that resilience begins with being seen and heard. Celebrating Social Work Month & World Social Work Day (18 March) March is a time to celebrate the profession and acknowledge the incredible contributions of social workers worldwide. This year, I reflect on the challenges we face and the hope we bring to others. Social workers are advocates, educators, and change-makers. We don’t just work in systems; we aim to transform them. A Tribute to Social Workers Everywhere To my fellow social workers: thank you for your dedication, compassion, and tireless efforts. You are the unsung heroes of our communities, shining a light in places that need it most. "It is not your job to save everyone. Some people are not even ready to be helped. Focus on serving those who are, and be wise and humble enough to know when the best service you can offer is to guide them toward help in another direction." ~ Anna Taylor, award-winning New Zealand fiction author Cheers! • Taking Care of Yourself During Election Season

The Election & All the Feels I'm not one to discuss my political views, but this election season has tremendously affected many people I know, including myself. Election outcomes stir various emotions, from excitement and hope to anger and frustration. With everything going on, it’s essential to care for our emotional and mental health and maintain balance as we process our reactions and those of others. Helpful Tactics Here are seven strategies that have helped me stay grounded and resilient during this befuddling period: Acknowledge your feelings. Whatever you feel—relief, disappointment, or something in between—is valid. Allow space for yourself to feel them without judgment. Recognizing these emotions can reduce their intensity and help you feel more at ease. It's ok not to be ok. Feel your feelings. Limit media exposure. Constant updates and discussions from the news can be overwhelming and disturbing, especially in the fast-paced world we live in today. Consider limiting your media consumption from once a day to once every few days. Maybe even up to once a week. This can help you stay informed without feeling overloaded with [negative] information. Engage in calming activities. Meditation, deep breathing exercises, listening to soothing music, going on a nature walk, and yoga are excellent tools for grounding myself during emotional and anxiety-provoking moments. Find activities that bring calmness to your life. Take social media breaks. Social media can intensify our emotional and mental health, especially during election season, when many opinions and debates are heated. Consider limiting time spent scrolling or taking a break altogether. These reductions and breaks from social media help me regain control over my sanity. Periodically, I just log in to post for ToL and then quickly log off. Focus on self-care. Make self-care a priority. Small acts of self-care, such as cooking a favorite meal, reading a good book, journaling, or getting some fresh air outdoors, can help recharge your well-being. I practice self-care ALL THE TIME! Connect with supportive people Talking with like-minded people who understand what you’re going through can be incredibly beneficial. Lean on those who offer support without judgment. I'm grateful for my inner circle, whom I can lean on when I need someone to vent to or discuss sensitive topics. I am forever appreciative that they honor, respect, and love me for who I am. Practice mindfulness and gratitude. Mindfulness techniques can help you stay anchored in the present moment when stress levels rise. Practicing gratitude, such as writing down three things you’re thankful for daily, will help you shift your focus to the positives in your life. My annual Thankful Challenge has been a cornerstone during this tumultuous month. Gratitude changes everything! Take Care of YOU! Maintaining emotional and mental wellness is an ongoing journey. Be kind to yourself, be patient, stay grounded, and connect with what brings you strength and peace. Navigating this time together with compassion and self-care can make all the difference. You are NOT alone. Cheers! Gini x 17 November 2024

  • Bringing People Together through Food

The Unity of Food Food unites people across cultures and backgrounds, cultivating connections and understanding through shared meals and culinary experiences. Whether it’s a family dinner, a potluck with friends, or trying new cuisines in the community, food is a universal language that transcends boundaries and promotes unity. How Food Brings Us Together Food brings people together for several reasons: Cultural Expression. Food is a powerful way to express cultural heritage. I love sharing dishes from Hawai‘i and Japan with people from all over the world and from different descents. Sharing traditional recipes connects me to my roots and allows me to share my culture with others. Social Bonding. Gathering around a meal encourages conversation and interaction. It’s a beautiful way for family and friends to reconnect, share stories, and bond. And honestly, what’s a better way to connect with loved ones than through delicious food? It's the perfect pair! Celebration. Food is at the heart of so many celebrations and special occasions. Let’s be honest: when there’s food, the joy of those moments feels so much more significant. Exploration and Adventure. Trying new foods and flavors is always an adventure. In the summer of 2023, I went on a food tour in France, which was incredible. I discovered so many amazing dishes and shared that experience with people worldwide. Comfort and Nourishment. Food has an incredible way of comforting us physically and emotionally. Preparing and sharing a meal with loved ones has always been my go-to during tough times. There’s nothing like a good meal with great company to lift your spirits. Community Building. Food brings communities together. Whether it’s a potluck, a festival, or a communal meal, these gatherings create a sense of belonging and togetherness. Let’s be real: food is almost always the star of any community event! Crossing Language Barriers. Food speaks a universal language. Even when we don’t share the exact words, sharing a meal shows warmth, hospitality, and friendship. If we can connect over a hearty meal, that says more than words ever could. Seven Tips to Harness Relationship Bonding Over Food Host a cultural potluck. Everyone brings a dish from their background. Provide recipe cards to share the stories behind the dishes. Make a weekly tradition of cooking or dining together with loved ones. Even simple meals can create lasting memories. Create a signature dish or dessert that becomes a staple at every celebration, giving guests something to look forward to each year. Organize a “global night” at home or with friends where you cook a dish from a different country each week. Rotate who chooses the cuisine! Keep a few go-to comfort food recipes to prepare when someone needs cheering up or support. Volunteer at or attend local food festivals or soup kitchens. It’s an excellent way to meet people and give back. If you host someone from a different culture, ask them to help you prepare one of their favorite dishes. It’s a meaningful way to bond and learn. Cheers! Gini x 2 March 2025

  • The Power of Giving Back

The Ripple Effects of Generosity & Kindness Giving back isn’t just about helping others—it’s about building connections, cultivating gratitude, and creating a chain reaction of positivity. Whether lending a hand to a neighbor or supporting a local cause, every act of kindness transforms our communities and enriches our lives. Generosity has filled me with enormous joy and purpose. Helping others often leads to unexpected blessings in our own lives, reminding us that kindness is a full-circle experience. Seven Simple Ways to Give Back Minor acts of kindness can make a meaningful difference. Here are seven easy ways to give back, no matter your time or resources: 1. Lend a Helping Hand. Offer to assist a family member, friend, colleague, or neighbor with groceries or lend a listening ear. These gestures strengthen bonds and build trust. I enjoy offering support, empathy, and encouragement whenever possible. 2. Support Local and Small Businesses. Supporting small shops is essential and close to my heart. When shopping for gifts, I always seek out unique, local finds. It makes gift-giving extra special while boosting local economies. 3. Donate. Clothing, food, supplies, or monetary donations go a long way in supporting organizations that serve those in need. I frequently donate clothes and food items to local nonprofits and support causes that align with my values. Knowing I can provide my belongings to a new home makes my heart smile. 4. Share Your Skills Hosting cooking or wellness workshops can be a powerful way to give back. Last year, I held free multiple cooking classes to promote healthy eating. It was a joy to cook, share my dishes with attendees, and provide educational insights on healthy food ingredients. 5. Mentor Youth. Becoming a mentor can meaningfully shape young lives. As a young adult, I mentored an adolescent, spending time with her monthly at parks or malls. It was fulfilling to guide, inspire, and witness her growth. Exhibiting kindness and showcasing positive role modeling go a long way. 6. Volunteer at Shelters. Homeless shelters often need compassionate volunteers. I’ve spent several years serving meals at a shelter. Hearing them say, "Thank you for serving and for the food," warmed my heart, even though we didn't make it. 7. Spend Time with Seniors. Most of my career has been dedicated to working with older adults. Beyond work, I’ve volunteered at senior centers, sharing stories, laughter, and life lessons. Their wisdom has enriched my life in countless ways. The Benefits of Giving Back Giving back is a personal journey of gratitude and fulfillment. It helps us step outside our routines, develop empathy, and feel more connected to the world. Uplifting others cultivate kindness, joy, and a sense of shared purpose. Bringing It All Together Giving back doesn’t require grand gestures—every small act counts. Whether volunteering, donating, or spreading kindness, you contribute to a stronger, more compassionate community. Let’s make giving back a daily practice that uplifts others and ourselves. Cheers! • Seven Winter Wellness Tips to Last the Entire Season

Managing the Challenges of the Winter Season Winter offers crisp mornings, relaxing afternoons, and cozy nights but also challenges our skin, hair, and overall comfort. In the colder months, humidity decreases, and indoor heating reduces moisture. The chilly outdoor air and heated indoor environments left me with dry, itchy skin and occasional static shocks—ouch! Seven Winter Recommendations You're not alone if you’ve struggled to feel comfortable and hydrated this season. Here’s a comprehensive guide to managing dry skin, combating dry indoor air, and reducing static electricity during winter. 1. Hydrate from the Inside Out. Staying hydrated is crucial. Although it’s easy to forget to drink enough water in the winter, your body and skin need it regardless of season. I enjoy hot herbal teas and warm water with lemon. I love soups and can eat them daily. They're particularly fitting for the winter season. 2. Establish a skincare routine. Winter is the time to give your skin some extra TLC. Look for creams with hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and ceramides that lock in moisture. I use CeraVe Moisturizing Cream . Remember to use sunscreen. UV rays can still damage your skin during winter, especially snowy and overcast days. I like dōTERRA's Sun Body and Mineral Spray . Use a gentle exfoliant once weekly to remove dead skin cells and allow moisturizers to penetrate better. I love Aveno's Tone+Texture Renewing Scrub . Apply throughout the day and before bed. Wear cotton gloves at bedtime to lock in the moisture. I treasure Burt's Bee's lavender and honey hand cream . Look for hydrating lip balms containing shea butter or beeswax. I enjoy a multitude of naturally-made lip balms. One of them includes Sun Bum's sunscreen banana lip balm . 3. Managing Winter Allergies. My allergies seemed to worsen during the fall and winter seasons. Here’s how to minimize symptoms: Vacuum carpets, wash bedding in hot water, and dust surfaces often to reduce allergens. Use an Air Purifier. High-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters trap allergens and improve indoor air quality. In 2024, I invested in UVilizer , a UV sanitizer I use weekly at home. Hypoallergenic bedding materials resist dust mites and allergens, creating a healthier sleep environment. 4. Relieving Congestion. Cold air and indoor heating can irritate nasal passages, leading to congestion. Combat this discomfort with these strategies: Drinking plenty of water helps thin mucus and moisten your nasal passages. Herbal teas and warm broths are comforting options. Saline nasal sprays or rinses clear out allergens and relieve dryness in your nose. To ease congestion, inhale steam from a bowl of hot water and cover your head with a towel, or take a steamy shower. Use a drop of peppermint or spearmint essential oil to intensify the experience of easing congestion. Diffusing essential oils, such as peppermint, spearmint, and eucalyptus, can help clear nasal passages and promote relaxation. 4. Opt for Lukewarm Showers. While a hot shower feels fantastic on a cold day, it can worsen the dryness of your skin. Stick to 5–10 minutes in lukewarm water. Apply body cream or oil to lock in moisture while damping your skin. 5. Prevent Static in Hair and Clothes. Static electricity can be a frustrating side effect of winter. Here’s how to tame it: Use anti-static sprays on the soles of clothing and footwear, as well as on the seats and floors of your vehicle. An anti-static keychain  safely discharges static electricity, preventing shocks from metal objects Wool and synthetic fabrics can generate static. I only wear 100% cotton or other 100% natural materials to minimize shock. I'm sure I would get shocked more frequently if I wore synthetic fabrics. Rubbing a dryer sheet over your hairbrush or clothing can quickly neutralize static electricity. 6. Protect Your Skin from the Harsh Winter Wind. The cold winter air can be brutal, especially on our skin. Here are some tips to protect our delegate skin: Wear gloves, scarves, and hats. Apply a protective balm and creams to areas prone to dryness, such as your hands and lips. Wearing face masks has helped protect my face from the cold winter air. 7. Avoid Overheating Indoors. While cranking up the heat is tempting, excessively warm indoor environments can dry out the air. Wear cozy layers to lower the thermostat slightly. Open windows briefly to circulate fresh air and prevent stagnant, dry air. Finding Comfort in Winter Winter may bring challenges, but you can make it a more comfortable and enjoyable season with a few mindful adjustments. By nourishing your skin, managing your environment, and taking proactive steps to alleviate discomfort, you’ll be ready to face the season like a boss! What’s your favorite winter wellness tip? Share your go-to remedies in the comments or on social media. Let’s embrace the beauty of winter with ease and distress. Cheers! Gini x 9 February 2025

  • Finding Light in the Darkness

Seasons Change, & So Does Our Mood As we enter the heart of winter, many notice changes in mood and energy levels. While some embrace the season's coziness, others may struggle with sadness, fatigue, and disconnection. For those affected by Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), winter can feel heavy. What is Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)? SAD is a type of depression linked to seasonal changes, often caused by reduced sunlight in the fall and winter. It disrupts the body’s internal clock and affects the production of serotonin and melatonin, which regulate mood and sleep (Mayo Clinic, 2024). Symptoms of SAD: Low energy and persistent fatigue. Difficulty concentrati ng. Changes in appetite, often craving carbs. Oversleeping or insomnia. Feelings of sadness, hopelessness, or irritability. Seven Tips to Cope While I’m embracing winter as best I can, I admit there have been moments where I’ve experienced some symptoms of SAD. But through optimism and resilience, I’ve found tools that helped me feel more grounded and uplifted. If you’re navigating similar feelings, you’re not alone. Here are seven ways that have helped me cope with SAD—and that might help you, too: Set Realistic Expectations. I am reminded to continuously be kind to myself and adjust my workload if necessary. Setting realistic expectations is vital to keep a well-balanced life. Get Outdoors. Fresh air, natural light, and being in nature improve my mood and focus. A quick walk during daylight hours has made all the difference. It brings a smile to my face. Stay Active. When my energy is low, moving my body seems like the last thing I want to do, but it ultimately helps. Whether it’s yoga, stretching, or a brisk walk, physical activity naturally lifts my spirits. Stay Hydrated. Consuming enough water throughout the day can be challenging. It's a work in progress. However, hydration plays a key role in maintaining energy and mental clarity. Connect with Others. Connection is crucial and a significant part of my life. I treasure socializing with loved ones, especially through the many technology-based methods available. Practice Mindful Self-Care. I’ve learned to honor my need for rest and reflection during winter. Meditating, listening to calm instrumental music, and relishing in a quiet moment bring me peace. Practice Gratitude. Starting and ending each day by listing three things I'm grateful for, big or small, shift my mindset and improve my emotional resilience. Further, it's made things easier to embrace the present moment. When to Seek Help If SAD symptoms persist or significantly interfere with your life, reaching out for professional support is a sign of strength. Therapy, medication, or a combination of treatments can provide relief and help you feel like yourself again. There is no shame in that. Finding Joy in Winter While winter brings challenges, it offers rest, self-care, and growth opportunities. By leaning into these strategies, I’ve found ways to navigate the darker days and rediscover moments of light and joy. What helps you cope during winter? I’d love to hear your experiences in the comments or connect with you on social media. We can embrace this season and support one another in finding the light. Cheers! • Treasure Your Health: Amare & Mental Wellness

Health Struggles In the summer of 2023, I faced mental and emotional health challenges caused by mysterious and persistent health issues. During this difficult time, a former chiropractor introduced me to Amare , a Mental Wellness Company, and shared how their supplements had transformed his well-being. Shortly after, a dear friend also spoke of how Amare had positively impacted her wellness journey. I was encouraged by their stories, and I felt inspired and determined to try this regimen. I was at my wit's end and was willing to try something new. What's a Leaky Gut? I was introduced to two health mentors who wholeheartedly believed in Amare products. I learned about the concept of a leaky gut—something I had never considered before. I took probiotics for years but learned from my mentors that they weren’t enough to keep my gut healthy. So, what is a leaky gut? It occurs when the intestinal lining has cracks that allow toxins to leak into the bloodstream (Cleveland Clinic, 2025). Some symptoms of a leaky gut that I experienced were: Bloating Constipation Fatigue Gas Suspected causes of a leaky gut that I experienced were: Dehydration Poor diet Stress Gut-Brain-Axis Did you know the gut and brain are deeply connected? Often called our “second brain,” the gut communicates with the brain and influences our physical and mental well-being. An imbalanced gut can lead to mood swings, chronic issues, and more. A Game-Changer Since starting Amare in the summer of 2023, I’ve experienced transformative changes: Improved mood and mental clarity. Reduced chronic pain and hives. Better digestion, an imperative sign of a healthier gut. While my health journey is ongoing, the improvements I’ve seen with Amare have been life-changing. My Top Two Amare Must-Haves I take a variety of different Amare supplements, but my two favorite ones that I have seen significant improvement in my health are: MentaBiotics - A unique blend of probiotics, prebiotics, and phytobiotics that support mental wellness by nurturing the gut-brain connection (Amare, 2025). MentaSync - Promotes communication between the brain and gut, supporting overall immunity and balance with clinically studied natural ingredients (Amare, 2025). Want to Learn More? • My Health Journey: Progress, Perseverance, & Hope for 2025

My Health Journey Since 2018, I’ve primarily been managing chronic pain. However, starting in 2023, new health challenges emerged—fatigue, chronic hives, heavy metal toxicity, and a suspected genetic variant that may prevent my body from processing vitamin B correctly. 2024 was especially tough, with those added symptoms and low energy levels. Nonetheless, I persevered, seeking answers and learning more about my body. I’m thankful to have been under the care of an excellent doctor in the Southern U.S. since 2023 who believes all my symptoms may be linked to this genetic variant. With this insight, I’ve started taking a methylated vitamin B supplement that is already in an active form that the body can easily absorb and use. For those who take a regular vitamin B that can be purchased over-the-counter at drug stores, the body needs to convert non-methylated B vitamins into active forms through methylation.  I’m also grateful for the incredible health mentors and practitioners who have supported me. Their insights and encouragement have been invaluable. 2025 Health Update I proudly and thankfully report that after almost two months of taking the methylated B vitamins, my pain has significantly reduced, especially in my lower back. I have moments, days of relief. I am so grateful and pray that other symptoms continue to improve. My doctor has encouraged me to add a methylated B12 supplement and methylated folic acid if I see improvement in my health. These supplements are on the horizon in 2025. I hope these three God-sent supplements and my current supplements continue to improve my health. The Journey Continues While this journey is far from over, I remain optimistic and grateful for every step forward. Each day is an opportunity to learn, heal, and discover new ways to improve my well-being. It has been a revelational experience. What Keeps Me Going? Through the challenges and setbacks, I’ve found strength in meaningful practices. These are seven things that keep me moving forward: Never give up.  Keep searching for answers and never settle for less. I told myself seven years ago that I would do whatever it took to find remedies to feel better. I would not be complacent and suffer from chronic pain. Listen to your body. I prioritize activities and choices that support my body. Most importantly, I listen to her and honor her limits. Everything is in moderation. Take deep breaths.  Stay grounded in the present moment. Limiting the stress levels has helped manage the chronic pain. Be surrounded by good company.  Being surrounded by loved ones has helped minimize the pain, as my attention is focused elsewhere in a positive way. Have a well-balanced diet. What I ingest is vital to my well-being. Certain foods have triggered pain in my body. Also, keeping well-hydrated with water is essential. Stretch.  Gentle stretches help release tension and improve circulation. Again, in moderation. Move your body.  Movement nurtures both body and mind, whether walking or light yoga. Movement helps loosen the joints and releases stiffness from being sedentary for too long. This health journey has taught me resilience, patience, and gratitude. I have also learned to celebrate every victory. I hope my story encourages anyone facing challenges to seek answers and find joy in every step of the process. Cheers, Gini x 19 January 2025

  • My Path to Understanding, Coping, & Healing through Pain

The Pain Journey The start of constant pain entered my life unexpectedly in early 2015, starting with intermittent tailbone discomfort after a long flight back from Southeast Asia. I shrugged it off, attributing it to sitting too long. In 2018, the pain grew, spreading to other parts of my body. It remained, and I knew I needed to seek medical attention. A specialist diagnosed me with mechanical arthritis in my sacroiliac joint area, but the root cause remained elusive. In 2022, my primary care physician speculated that I might have arthralgia , a condition characterized by widespread pain without inflammation or an autoimmune disorder. Another specialist that same year claimed I had fibromyalgia , which is related to widespread chronic pain, fatigue, and insomnia. The Search for Balance & Relief I’ve tried countless treatments—both medical and holistic—hoping for relief, but I always ended up back at square one. I've explored every avenue, from physical therapy to dietary changes to various holistic practices. In 2019, I modified my diet, eliminating inflammation-causing foods, but the journey to finding the right balance is ongoing. By 2022, I began a mixture of pescatarian and plant-based diets. In 2024, I've been trying to refrain from gluten and deep-fried foods. Throughout this journey, as frustrating as it's been, I’m thankful I never turned to opioids or addictive medications, opting instead for a more natural approach to pain management. Lessons Learned & Revelations Living with chronic pain without finding a lasting solution has been one of the most challenging experiences of my life. There were days when the pain was so intense that I felt hopeless, anxious, and down. During these moments, I often turned to prayer, asking God to reveal the purpose behind the pain. Here's what was revealed to me: This experience has made me resilient. Suffering is not the answer. I will continue finding a remedy that works. I won't give up! Maintaining healthy boundaries for my physical and mental health has been crucial. I have to take care of myself before I can care for others. I have met many holistic mentors and practitioners who have been instrumental in this journey. Slow down and pace myself. Grace, patience, and forgiveness have become essential to my healing process. More to Learn! I am open to learning from others to expand my wisdom and knowledge. If anyone is battling a chronic condition, please share your journey and ways that have helped you cope. I would love to hear from you! Cheers! Gini x 12 January 2025

  • 2025, Here We Go!

Welcome, 2025! Aloha, 2025! Each new year brings a fresh opportunity to reflect, reset, and realign with our purpose. As I look back on 2024, I’m reminded of the growth I’ve experienced and the lessons I learned. I never stop learning. I’m focusing on the goals and aspirations that will guide me through this new chapter. 2025 Focus Here’s what I’ll be focusing on in the new year: Be in the present moment. Getting caught up in plans or dwelling on the past is easy and familiar. This year, I will continue practicing mindfulness and finding peace and gratitude in the present moment. Focus on things I control. Instead of getting overwhelmed, I’ll direct my energy into areas where I can make an impact and let go of the rest. It's easier said than done, but I’ll do my best. Set smaller, manageable goals. In the past, I’ve sometimes set the bar a bit too high, which has led to stress and burnout. This year, to stay balanced, I’ll break my goals into smaller, achievable ones. Be patient and kind to myself. Self-compassion is an ongoing journey. I’ll work on embracing my imperfections and treating myself with the kindness I’d offer a dear friend. Why do we often treat others better than we treat ourselves? Let it be a reminder to extend that same care to ourselves. Continue to take risks. Though sometimes scary, taking chances has helped me grow unexpectedly. I’ve learned that I’m braver than I think. In 2025, I’ll keep stepping outside my comfort zone and embracing opportunities to live life fully. YOLO, baby! Keep rediscovering myself. Self-discovery is progressing. Each day brings new insights about who I am and what I am becoming. I’m excited to keep learning and evolving. Cultivate new friendships. Building connections can be challenging, but they are also so rewarding. This year, I will continue seeking meaningful relationships with people who inspire me and enrich my life. Many of these goals are easier said than done. Nonetheless, I’ll give it my all. If I stumble or revert to old habits, I’ll remind myself of Maya Angelou’s wisdom: “Do the best you can until you know better. Then, when you know better, do better.” Let's Get It! As we step into the Year of the Snake, a symbol of transformation and renewal, I’d love to hear about your goals and intentions in 2025. Let’s encourage and support each other on this journey. Happy 2025! May it be a year of beginnings, kindness, triumph, aha moments, and resilience. Let's get it! Cheers! Gini x 5 January 2025

  • The Essence of Winter’s Gifts

“Winter” in Hawaiʻi Growing up in Hawai‘i, winter was a concept rather than a season. Nights might dip into the high 50s (Fahrenheit) (≈10ºC), and daytime temperatures often hovered in the low 80s (Fahrenheit) (≈27ºC). There was no need for heavy coats, snow boots, or layering clothes. Winter in Hawai‘i meant warm sunshine, gentle trade winds, and holiday celebrations at the beach. However, as I got older, I experienced the winter season in various places, with temperatures as frigid as the teens (Fahrenheit) (≈-9ºC). The icy chill was unlike anything I’d ever known—brrr! Learning to Love the Season For as long as I can remember, winter was not my favorite season. However, over the years, I’ve embraced winter and its quiet beauty. I’ll never forget seeing snow for the first time—it was pure magic. I remember hearing the satisfying crunch of snow under my boots, making my first snowball, and the joy of examining my first snowflake. Those moments were breathtaking and unforgettable. I’ve also developed a newfound appreciation for the little things that make winter unique—like the sun. Hawai'i's sun can be very intense, especially on sweltering, humid summer days. But the sun's warmth is a blessing and gift during the chilly winter air. My heart smiles when the sun shines brightly, and my soul is grateful. I cherish wrapping my hands around a steaming cup of tea or hot chocolate and curling up under a warm blanket. Winter offers stillness—a chance to pause, reflect, and just be. Winter’s Lessons Experiencing winter has taught me resilience and adaptability. It’s also shown me the beauty of change, the importance of slowing down, and the value of finding warmth in unexpected places. Winter has become more than a season to endure—it’s a season to cherish. I’m reminded of the importance of embracing change and finding joy in life’s unexpected transitions. What does winter mean to you? I’d love to hear your stories in the comments. Cheers! • Keeping the Busy Christmas Season Joyful

Christmas, A Wonderful Time of the Year Since childhood, the Christmas season has been a cozy, feel-good, and giddy time for me. I fondly remember decorating the Christmas tree, having Christmas breakfast with the family at my late aunt's house, shopping for gifts, wrapping presents, and the joy of giving. As a teenager, I came to appreciate the religious meaning of the season, which I hold in high regard. Christmas brought its challenges during adulthood. I wanted to do it all—baking, cooking, shopping, wrapping, enjoying festive activities, spending time with loved ones, and creating new traditions together—while juggling my full-time professional life. Tips on Maintaining a Stress-Free Holiday Season Here are seven tips that have helped me find balance and joy during the busy holiday season: Create small, manageable goals and accept them. With a full-time job, I couldn’t do everything on my holiday goal list, so I had to prioritize and accept what I could complete without burning myself out. Setting realistic expectations and embracing them helped me focus on what mattered most. Focus on having fun, too. Embrace the joy of the season, not just the to-do lists. Being present and allowing yourself to enjoy the little moments makes everything feel much more rewarding and pleasant. Set boundaries to avoid overcommitment. It’s easy to say yes to every event or gathering, but prioritizing what’s most meaningful can help you enjoy the season without burning out. It's ok to set boundaries with your time so you have space to unwind and appreciate the holidays. Remember to self-care. Amid all the excitement, take time to rest and recharge. Simple self-care practices, like enjoying tea or taking a peaceful walk, can boost your energy and spirits. Simplify and let go. Not everything needs to be perfect or handmade. Choose a few meaningful touches, like a favorite recipe or heartfelt gift, and let go of the rest. Simplifying your efforts can make the holidays more manageable and enjoyable. I am reminded to practice this tip every single year. Embrace imperfection. Plans may not always go as expected, but that’s ok. The best memories often come from spontaneous moments. Embrace the imperfections and cherish what the holiday season brings. Stay focused on what matters most. Amidst the hustle and bustle, make time for what fills your heart—connecting with loved ones, reflecting on your goals, or simply enjoying quiet moments of gratitude. I wish you and yours a beautiful holiday season. Savor every moment, cherish the little joys, and embrace the magic of the most beautiful time of the year. Cheers! Gini x 15 December 2024
